News Release

Teenager Killed in a Off Road Motorcycle Collision on Ky 1064

Date of News Release: 07/16/10

(London, Ky.) -- On Thursday July 15, 2010 at 7:42 PM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, London received a report, from the Whitley County 911 center, of a traffic crash with fatality on Louden Road (KY 1064) in Whitley County.

Upon arrival Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Craig Reed determined that a white, 1990, Yamaha, off road motorcycle, operated by Michael K. Burnette, 14, of Corbin, was westbound on Verne Road when it disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Verne Road and Louden Road (KY 1064). The motorcycle struck the side of a northbound livestock trailer that was being pulled by a black, 1997, Ford, F-250 truck, operated by Jason Flannery, 21, of Williamsburg.

Mr. Burnette, who was not wearing a helmet, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene by Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley. Mr. Burnettes' passenger, Scottie Day, 18, of Williamsburg, also not wearing a helmet, was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, in Knoxville, for treatment of his injuries.

Mr. Flannery was not injured.

There is no alcohol and/or drug usage suspected.

Trooper Reed is continuing the investigation and was assisted by officers of the Kentucky State Police, the Whitley Sheriff's Office, the Whitley County Coroner's Office, the Whitley County EMS and the Patterson Creek Fire Department.
