One Killed & One Injured in a Two Vehicle Collision

(London, Ky.) -- On Monday July 12, 2010 at 7:11 AM the Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a two vehicle traffic crash with injury at the 30 mile marker on the Hal Rogers Parkway in Clay County.
Upon arrival KSP Traffic Crash Reconstructionist TFC Don Trosper determined that a white, 2001, Freightliner, Tractor-trailer, operated by Johnny L. Strong, 43, of Hazard, was westbound on the Hal Rogers Parkway when it crossed the centerline, avoiding a slow moving or stopped vehicle, and collided with a tan, 1995, Chevrolet, Silverado, pickup, operated by William M. Simons, 53, of Knoxville, TN, which was eastbound.
Both vehicles then traveled south and came to rest over an embankment.
Mr. Simons, who was fatality injured, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clay County Coroner Jim Trosper.
Mr. Strong was transported, by ambulance, to the Manchester Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
NO alcohol and/or drug usage suspected.
TFC Trosper is in charge of the crash investigation and was assisted by officers from the KSP Division of CVE, the Manchester Police Department, the Manchester Fire Department, the Big Creek Fire Department, the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection, the Clay County Coroner's Office and the Clay County EMS.
