News Release

Escapee Arrest in Laurel County

Date of News Release: 06/17/2010

On Thursday, June 17, 2010, at approximately 7:17 AM EDT Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Greg Reams arrested Christopher Michael Sams at a residence on Hershey Road in Laurel County.

Sams was originally arrested on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 by Officer Reams on the charges of Fleeing/Evading Police First Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Providing Officer False Name/Address. 

Officer Reams transported the accused to KSP Post 11 for processing and at approximately 4:10 AM, Sams was able to escape custody by fleeing from the building on foot. 

Officer Reams has charged Sams with the additional charges of, Escape Second Degree, Theft under $500.00, Criminal Mischief 3rd and Resisting Arrest.

Kentucky State Police Detective Mark Allen will present his investigation into the incident at the residence to the Laurel County Grand Jury for the possible charges of Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Burglary 2nd and Unlawful Imprisonment 1st.

The investigation into the escape is continuing and additional arrests are expected.

Officer Reams was assisted by officers from the Kentucky State Police, the London Police Department, the Laurel County Sheriff's Office and the KSP Canine Section.

Date of News Release: 06/16/2010

(London, Ky.) -- On Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at approximately 2:16 AM EDT, the accused, Christopher Michael Sams, was arrested on KY 80W in the city limits of London by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Greg Reams on charges of Fleeing/Evading Police First Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Providing Officer False Name/Address. During the course of the arrest, the accused tried to flee from Officer Reams. Officer Reams deployed his issued TASER and was able to take the accused into custody. It was discovered that Sams had outstanding warrants for Robbery First Degree and a bench warrant for Failure to Appear on traffic related charges both issued in Pulaski County.

Officer Reams transported the accused to KSP Post 11 to process him on all of the charges. At approximately 4:10 AM, Sams was able to escape custody by fleeing from the building on foot. An extensive search was immediately initiated however, Sams has not been located.

Sams is a 20 year old white male, approximately 5' 10" tall, weighing 170 pounds with black hair. He is a resident of Somerset.

Officer Reams is continuing the investigation and was assisted by officers from the Kentucky State Police, the London Police Department, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, the KSP Canine Section.
