Death Investigation in Clay County

Date of News Release: 03/09/2010

(London, Ky.) -- On Monday, March 08, 2010, at approximately 8:30 PM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London received a report, from the Clay County 911 center, of a person struck by a vehicle outside a residence on Smith Road in Clay County.

KSP Detective Donald Wilson responded to the scene and determined that the deceased and four (4) other subjects had followed a vehicle, occupied by a man, his wife and children, to their residence on Smith Road. Once the family's vehicle stopped the five subjects confronted the male who then drove to a neighbor's residence for help. The five subjects followed and attempted to lure the male out of the vehicle. When he refused they began damaging the vehicle and the male, with his family, drove away again.

Beve Jones, 64, of Manchester was struck by the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clay County Coroner.

This incident is a result of another incident that occurred on Sunday night in Clay County.

No charges have been filed. The incident will be presented to a Clay County Grand Jury for consideration.

KSP Detective Donald Wilson is in charge of the investigation and was assisted at the scene by the officers from the Kentucky State Police, the KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the Clay County Coroner's Office and the Clay County EMS.
