Traffic Crash with Injury in Rockcastle County

(London, Ky.) -- On Sunday January 03, 2010 at 12:40 PM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, London received a report of an injury traffic crash, involving a vehicle and a CSX train, at a railroad crossing located on a private drive that leads from KY 1786 to a residence in the Wildie Community of Rockcastle County.
Upon arrival Trooper Craig Reed determined that a black and gray, 1994, Ford pickup, operated by Shirley Smith, 71, of Wildie, was attempting to cross the railroad tracks when it was struck by a northbound train.
Mr. Smith, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned and was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
Trooper Reed is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by officers from the Kentucky State Police, the KSP Division of CVE, the Rockcastle County EMS, the Rockcastle County Sheriff's Office and the Brindle Ridge Fire Department.
