Injury Crash & Vehicle Theft Harlan County

(Big Laurel, Ky.) -- On 07/11/2010 at 8:30 pm Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan responded to an injury crash on KY 510 in the community of Big Laurel, KY. James Michael Cornett, age 37 of Big Laurel, KY was traveling west on KY 510 and lost control of a Ford F-150 striking an embankment. A passenger in the vehicle, Burley Jackson age 42 of Big Laurel, KY sustained multiple injuries and was flown out to Holsten Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.

Christopher Cornett of Bledsoe, KY stopped to assist with the vehicle crash and the operator of the wrecked vehicle, James Cornett, stole Christopher Cornett's vehicle (these two are not related) and fled the scene. The Stolen vehicle was abandoned and was recovered in Letcher County by the Letcher County Sheriff's Office.

Charges are pending and this case is still under investigation by Trooper Jeffrey Browning of Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
