Seizure of Illegal Gambling Devices

(Barbourville, Ky.) -- On 1/7/2010 at 3:00 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan executed several search warrants at multiple businesses across Knox and Bell Counties in an effort to stop the promotion of illegal gambling. The businesses involved were; Knox County - Flat Lick BP, Creek Mart at Flat Lick, Spur #1 in Barbourville, Williams Stop and Go in Barbourville, Spur #2 at Bailey Switch, Heidrick One Stop. In Bell County - Exxon Friendly Mart in Pineville. A total of 49 illegal gambling devices were seized along with $62,277.00 in cash. Charges are pending.

The Kentucky Revised Statute 528.020 Promoting Gambling in the First Degree states - A person is guilty of promoting gambling in the first degree when he knowingly advances or profits from unlawful gambling activity by setting up and operating a gambling device. Promoting gambling in the first degree is a Class "D" felony.

These cases are still under investigation by Detective Keith Saylor and Trooper Tyson Lawson of Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
