News Release

Pike County Woman Killed in Three Car Collision

Date of News Release: 09/20/2009

(Pikeville, Ky.) -- At approximately 3:08 p.m., Post 9 in Pikeville received a 911 call of a three-car collision that had just occurred on U.S. Hwy 119 in the community of Belfry, KY. Trooper Jacob Stinnett responded to the scene of the accident where Unit One, a 2007 Dodge Caliber, driven by Jonna Hatfield, 21, of Hardy, KY, was traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy 119 through Belfry, KY, when she lost control of the vehicle and went into the southbound lanes of U.S. Hwy 119 and was struck in the driver's side door by Unit Two, a 1991 Ford F-250, driven by Bruce Tilley. Unit One was knocked back into the northbound lanes of U.S. Hwy 119. Unit Two went off the shoulder of the southbound side and struck Unit Three, a 1994 Chevy 1500 pickup, driven by James Allen Rose. Unit Three had been traveling northbound on the southbound shoulder of the road at the time of the collision.

Ms. Hatfield was transported by ambulance to South Williamson ARH where she was pronounced dead. Mr. Tilley was also transported to South Williamson ARH and was treated and released. Mr. Rose was uninjured.

Trooper Stinnett is still investigating the accident. He was assisted at the scene by Detective Jason Merlo, Trooper Donald White, the Belfry Fire Department, and Appalachian First Response Ambulance Service.
