News Release

Fatal Fire in McCarr, Ky

Date of News Release: 08/15/2009

(Pikeville, Ky.) -- Post 9 received a report of a residential structure fire at 199 Farley Bottom in McCarr at approximately 4:48 a.m. Saturday morning. Blackberry Volunteer Fire Department, KSP Pikeville, and the Kentucky State Fire Marshal's Office responded to the scene and discovered the deceased bodies of 26 year old resident Heather Smith, and her 7 week old son Ethan Smith inside the burned home. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts. Foul play is not suspected at this time. Autopsies are pending at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Frankfort. The investigation is continuing by KSP Detectives Jason Merlo and Don Parker, and State Fire Marshal David Broderick.
