Magoffin County Jury Tampering Investigation
Date of News Release: 08/12/2009
(Magoffin County, Ky.) -- KSP in Pikeville received notification of a complaint in which three jurors reported that they had been intimidated by a family member of a defendant, Chester Dean Allen, while they were leaving the Magoffin County Courthouse. There was a trial that had been underway for Mr. Allen regarding sexual abuse and sodomy. Judge Kimberly Childers locked down the courthouse and law enforcement was notified. One of the suspects identified was the 18 year old son of the defendant, Jarred Allen, of Puncheon Creek in Magoffin County. He is being charged with three counts of jury tampering. Through further investigation, 63 year old Gladys Allen of Puncheon Creek made a threat toward Commonwealth Attorney Graham Marcum. During the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for both suspects and they were arrested without incident at the Magoffin County Courthouse. The case remains under investigation by Trooper Brian Lee.
