News Release

Garrard County Death Investigation

(Richmond, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police Post 7, Richmond, is currently investigating a fatal shooting which occurred at a residence on Old Richmond Road, in the Garrard County Community of Cartersville. On July 21st, at 12:46, the Bluegrass 911 Center received a call from a homeowner who reported that a male subject had forcibly entered his residence and that he had shot him. Upon arrival of law enforcement officers, they found the victim, Dallas Helton age 40 of Paint Lick, dead at the scene. The victim suffered from a single gunshot wound to the chest. The shooting victim was wearing gloves, a ski mask, and was in possession of a crow bar at the time he entered the residence. Also at the time of the incident, two persons were waiting outside the residence in a vehicle. One of those persons is identified as Tanya A. Fowler age 35, of Berea, and the other is the victim's juvenile son. Ms. Fowler was charged with one count of Complicity to Commit Burglary 2nd and was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail. The homeowner has not been charged. The body of the deceased was taken to the Kentucky State Medical Examiners Office in Frankfort where an autopsy will be conducted. The investigation will be presented to the Garrard County Grand Jury.
