News Release

Grant County Train Accident

Date of News Release: 03/13/09

(Dry Ridge, Ky.) - At approximately 0130 hours on March 13th 2009, Post 6 was notified by CSX Dispatch of a train versus vehicle collision on Elliston Mt Zion Rd in Grant County. It was unknown at the time of any injuries. It was determined that Ginger Bowles of Florence, KY was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, West on Elliston Mt Zion Road (KY Route 1942) when she attempted to cross at a designated railroad crossing. The vehicle stalled on the tracks, when a CSX train transporting multiple types of cargo traveling east and ultimately collided with the truck. Mrs. Bowles and her passenger Eva Volkering of Dry Ridge, KY was able to safely exit the vehicle before the collision. Neither the operator nor the passenger suffered any injuries as a result of the collision. The operator was transported to St Elizabeth Grant County Hospital for treatment of anxiety, where she was treated and released. Mrs. Bowles was lodged in the Grant County Detention Center on the single charge of DUI. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Jason Joseph. Trooper Joseph was assisted by the Grant County Sheriff's Department and Dry Ridge Fire & EMS.
