One Killed in a Two-Vehicle Collision in Owen County

(Campbellsburg, Ky.) -- On Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 at approximately 3:15p.m. The Kentucky State Police responded to a two vehicle fatal collision at Kentucky 330 and Wild Deer Road in Owen County.

A Toyota passenger car driven by Matthew R Fernandez age 21 from Owenton was traveling east on KY 330, when the operator lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the westbound lane, where it was struck on the passenger side by a Ford pickup truck operated by Billy Daniel, age 53 from Corinth Kentucky. After the initial collision both vehicles remained in the roadway.

Matthew R. Fernandez was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Owen County Coroner, and was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt.

Billy Daniel was transported to Grant hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, and was reportedly not wearing his seatbelt.

The collision is currently under investigation by Trooper Brandon Maupin with the Kentucky State Police. Assisting at the scene was Trooper Chad Mills, the Owen County Sheriff's Department, Owen County Life Squad, South Owen Fire Department, Owen County Rescue Squad, and the Owen County Coroner.
