Fatal Collision on I-71 in Gallatin County
Date of News Release: 09/03/2009
(Campbellsburg, Ky.) -- On Thursday, September 03, 2009 at approximately 2:30 a.m. the Kentucky State Police responded to a two vehicle fatal collision at mile marker 63 southbound on Interstate 71 in Gallatin County.
A commercial vehicle being operated by Thomas Kellett age 58 from Como, Tennessee was traveling southbound on Interstate 71 in the slow lane when the semi tractor and trailer struck an abandoned vehicle parked in the emergency lane of the interstate. The truck traveled past the location of the car and off of the West Side of the highway through the guardrail and over an embankment. The truck and trailer came to rest in a ravine adjacent to a lower access road. Teresa Kellett age 55 from Como, Tennessee was a passenger in the sleeper birth portion of the truck at the time of the accident. Teresa Kellett was ejected from the vehicle as a result of the accident and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner. Thomas Kellett was air lifted from the scene by PHI Air Medical.
The collision is currently under investigation by Trooper Justin Sams with the Kentucky State Police. Assisting at the scene was the Glencoe Fire Department, Glencoe EMS, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, the Gallatin County Coroner, Warsaw Fire department, Warsaw EMS, and PHI Air Medical.
