News Release

Fatal Collision in Gallatin County

Date of News Release: 05/23/2009

(Campbellsburg, Ky.) -- On May 23rd, 2009, at approximately 9:37 a.m. Kentucky State Police Post 5 Campbellsburg received a call in reference to a single vehicle accident with injuries in Gallatin County at the 60 mile marker. Upon arrival it was determined that the passenger of the vehicle was fatally injured. The driver was also injured and transported by air ambulance to the University of Cincinnati. Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling southbound on I-71. The driver, Amy Phillips 38 year old female from Murfreesboro Tennessee, left the roadway entering the median where she over corrected coming across the northbound lanes of the interstate striking a guardrail. The vehicle then overturned after striking the guardrail ejecting the passenger in the vehicle. The passenger of the vehicle, identified as 80 year old Ida S. Hyder of Murfreesboro, Tennessee was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner. The operator of the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt but the passenger was not. Assisting on scene was the Gallatin County Sheriff, Gallatin County EMS, Glencoe Fire Department, and the Gallatin County Coroner.
