News Release

Inmate Escape and Assault Updated Information

Date of News Release: 03/23/2009

(Campbellsburg, Ky.) - Throughout the afternoon hours the Kentucky State Police along with local agencies responded to several unconfirmed sightings related to the escaped inmates in the northern Kentucky area. Law enforcement agencies are continuing to gather additional information and are conducting an ongoing investigation to assist in the search.

Richard Marshall, age 59 from Sanders, Kentucky was flown to a hospital in Louisville and is listed in stable condition. The remaining two victims, Keith Marshall age 56, and Barry Marshall age 50 were treated and released. All three victims are brothers.

(Campbellsburg, Ky.) - At 11:30 PM on Monday, March 23, 2009 a report of an assault and burglary was reported to State and Local law enforcement. Three victims at a residence in Sanders, Kentucky were accosted, bound, and held in their residence for approximately one and a half hours. The three men involved in the assault have been identified as the escaped inmates from the Branchville Correctional Facility in Indiana. The three men left the residence with a sizeable amount of cash and ten guns of various types and calibers. Also taken from the residence were several pairs of flannel shirts and jeans.

One of the three victims was flown to a hospital in Louisville and is reportedly in stable condition. The two remaining victims were treated and released.

Jerry Sargent, one of the three escaped inmates has a record of a prior escape.

A joint ongoing investigation is currently under way involving Federal, State, and Local law enforcement agencies.

Date of News Release: 03/22/2009

(Campbellsburg, Ky.) - At 330 PM this date (03/22/2009), units from Kentucky State Police Post 5 recovered a stolen 1989 Ford pick-up truck from the 49 north bound mile marker on I-71 in Carroll County. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the recovery. The theft of the vehicle is believed to be related to an investigation of three inmates that escaped from the Branchville Correctional Facility in Branchville, IN, on Friday March 20, 2009. Post 5 is conducting a search of the area at this time. Residents in Carroll and surrounding counties are urged to be cautious and report any suspicious persons to the Kentucky State Police or local authorities
