One Killed and One Injured in a Single Car Collision on I-65

(Elizabethtown, Ky.) -- On December 26, at 3:25 am Eastern Time, Post 04 units were called to the scene of a single-vehicle accident, with a possible fatality, on southbound I-65, approximately 1 mile south of exit 86 (Glendale). Trooper C. Taylor reports that a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer, operated by Sheri L. Howell (a 34 year-old female from Edgewater, FL), was traveling southbound on I-65, when the vehicle left the roadway and entered the median. The vehicle operator overcorrected and the vehicle crossed both southbound lanes and finally overturned off the right shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle operator was not restrained by her safety belt; and, as a result, was ejected from the vehicle. A 4 ½-month-old child was found restrained in a child safety seat in the back seat of the vehicle. The child was extricated by Post 04 Troopers, and was found to be uninjured. Both patients were transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital by Hardin County EMS for treatment. At 4:40 am Eastern Time, Sheri L. Howell was pronounced dead by the Hardin County Coroner. The investigation into this accident is on-going.
