Death Investigation in Hardin County
Date of News Release: 12/26/2009
(Elizabethtown, Ky.) -- On 12/25/2009 at approximately 2256 hours, KSP Post 4 was contacted by the Rainbow Tavern about a couple that had departed without paying a bill. A Vine Grove Police Officer located the couple in Vine Grove and after some dialogue a pursuit ensued. The driver of the vehicle, Thomas Everett D.O.B. 09/15/1970 from Elizabethton TN, wrecked his vehicle and fled on foot. While the Vine Grove Officer pursued on foot, Mr. Everett went back to the Vine Grove Police Cruiser and stole the car. When the Officer got back to his cruiser, Everett ran him over and fled in the stolen Vine Grove Cruiser. Radcliff Police Department located the stolen cruiser and attempted to deploy stop sticks to disable the tires but the attempt was unsuccessful. Mr. Everett then attempted to run over a Radcliff Police Officer and that officer fired his duty weapon at the stolen cruiser striking the vehicle but not Mr. Everett. The pursuit continued until Mr. Everett reached John Hardin High School, at which point he stopped the stolen cruiser with at least one flat tire. As Radcliff Officers and a Trooper from KSP Post 4 approached the vehicle, Mr. Everett brandished what appeared to be a black pistol in his right hand. Two Officers from Radcliff Police Department fired their duty weapons and struck Mr. Everett multiple times. Mr. Everett was pronounced dead at 0003 hours by the Hardin County Coroner at Hardin Memorial Hospital. At the request of Radcliff Police Chief, Jeff Cross, KSP Post 4 is working both the criminal and death investigation. The investigation is still on-going and more information will follow. KSP Post 4 was assisted by the Radcliff, E-town & Vine Grove Police Departments, Hardin County Coroner & Hardin County EMS.
