Fatal Motorcycle Collision on Silver Mine Road

(Elizabethtown, Ky.) -- On July 26, 2009, at 2:25 EST, Troopers from the Elizabethtown Post of the Kentucky State Police were called to respond to an injury accident on Silver Mine Road, 1 mile west of Sonora. Trooper Ryan Johnson reported that a 1998 Nissan Altima, operated by Ronald C. Beavers (a 55 year-old white male from Glendale, Ky), was backing from a driveway at 871 Silver Mine Rd. As Mr. Beaver's vehicle came to a stop, to change direction of travel, a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by Alan W. Hazelip (a 24 year-old white male from Elizabethtown, Ky), struck the right (passenger) side of the vehicle. Mr. Hazelip was ejected from the motorcycle and onto the grassy shoulder along the right side of the roadway. Mr. Hazelip was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner. The occupants of Mr. Beaver's vehicle were not injured.
