Fatal Collision on Bluegrass Parkway
Date of News Release: 07/21/2009
(Elizabethtown, Ky.) -- On July 20, 2009, at 6:48 PM EDT, the Elizabethtown Post of the Kentucky State Police was called to respond to a single-vehicle accident on the westbound Bluegrass Parkway, approximately 6 miles east of Elizabethtown. Upon arrival, Troopers discovered a 1991 Buick Park Avenue, operated by Ben G Napier (age 19 of Elizabethtown, Ky), off of the right shoulder of the roadway. Trooper Cummings reported that Mr. Napier's vehicle was traveling westbound when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle's left-side tires entered the median. The driver attempted to regain control of the vehicle, but overcorrected, causing the vehicle to rotate clockwise as it re-entered the roadway. The vehicle then crossed both westbound lanes, left the roadway on the right side, and struck a tree. Mr. Napier was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
