Injury Collision on Ky 1600 in Hardin County
Date of News Release: 04/21/2009
(Elizabethtown, Ky.) - On 04/20/2009, at 8:57 pm Eastern time, the Kentucky State Police in Elizabethtown received a report of a two-vehicle injury accident on Ky 1600, approximately 1 mile west of Rineyville. Trooper Ryan Johnson and Trooper Josh Cummings were dispatched to the scene. After arrival and investigation, Trooper Johnson determined that a westbound 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, operated by Kaela N Vessels (a 17 year-old female from Vine Grove, Ky) had been struck head-on by a 12' utility trailer. Trooper Johnson found that the trailer became disconnected from an eastbound 1999 Honda Odyssey minivan, operated by William L Mills Jr (a 47 year-old male from Brandenburg, Ky). Kaela Vessels was freed from her vehicle by non-mechanical means and was initially transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital by Hardin County EMS, with life threatening injuries. Vessels was later transferred to Kosair Children's Hospital by LifeNet Air Ambulance. Trooper Johnson's investigation into this accident is ongoing.
