Trooper and Three Others Injured in Pursuit
Date of News Release: 11/08/2009
(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- On Saturday, November 7, 2009, Tpr. Joe Gregory attempted to stop a motorcyclist that was northbound on I-65. Tpr. Gregory's reason for attempting to stop the motorcycle was for a speeding violation. After further investigation, it was discovered the motorcycle was stolen and entered into NCIC by the Nashville Metro Police Department. The motorcyclist refused to stop and continued north on I-65.
Other Kentucky State Police troopers and Officer Steve Burke of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, joined in the pursuit at various locations on I-65. Near the 38 mile marker, a motorist slowed dramatically in his lane of travel and was struck in the rear by Tpr. John Holbrook. Tpr. Holbrook was injured and flown to University of Louisville Hospital by Air Methods where he was treated and released. The operator, Noah Hensley III, and passenger, Dara Burks, were transported by Barren-Metcalfe EMS to T.J. Sampson Hospital in Glasgow for precautionary measures where they were examined and released.
While continuing north on I-65, and weaving in and out of traffic, the motorcyclist struck the rear of a KSP vehicle being operated by Tpr. Jeremy Smith. The operator of the motorcycle was ejected after striking Tpr. Smith's vehicle. Tpr. Smith was not injured in the crash. The operator of the motorcycle, Wallace F. Peterson III of Madison, TN, was flown to University of Louisville Hospital where he was admitted. As of Sunday, November 08, 2009, Peterson was listed in critical condition.
Other agencies involved in this incident were Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Medical Center EMS and Barren-Metcalfe EMS.
