Fatal Collision on I-65 in Warren County
Date of News Release: 08/22/2009
(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- Charles Shrive was traveling northbound on I-65 in the right lane. Michael Sams was traveling northbound in the left lane. Mr. Sams' 2003 Nissan Exterra moved into the right lane, failing to see Mr. Shrive's 2006 Yamaha Motorcycle. Mr. Sams' vehicle rear ended Mr. Shrive's motorcycle causing Mr. Shrive to fall. Mr. Sams' vehicle then drove over Mr. Shrive's motorcycle and Mr. Shrive after he was thrown from the motorcycle. Mr. Sams left the scene without stopping according to witnesses.
Witnesses followed Mr. Sams while calling 911 and gave the description and location of Mr. Sams. Mr. Sams' vehicle exited onto the Natcher Parkway and was located by KSP Units at the 3 mile-marker. Mr. Sam was arrested at that location for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. Charles Shrive was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Mr. Sams admitted during an interview that he had fled the scene. Upon investigation of the crash scene and inspection of Mr. Sams was charged with Manslaughter 2nd also. Toxicology is pending. An autopsy will be performed on Charles Shrive. The investigation is continuing.
