(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Larry G. Chambers, age 62 of Winder, GA, was operating a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country van westbound on Interstate 24. Robert E. Ohelendorf, age 60 of Belleville, IL, was operating a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer eastbound on Interstate 24. The tractor-trailer was hauling sand. For an undetermined reason, Mr. Chambers' vehicle crossed the median and traveled into the eastbound lanes. Mr. Ohelendorf attempted to avoid Mr. Chamber's van; however, Mr. Chamber's vehicle struck the tractor-trailer on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway. The van came to rest in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24. The tractor-trailer exited off the right shoulder of the roadway and came to rest in a ditch. Larry Chambers was pronounced dead at the scene by the Christian County Coroner's Office. Robert Ohelendorf was transported to the Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, TN by the Montgomery County (TN) EMS. Both subjects were wearing seat belts. An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Madisonville, KY. The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police. KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the Christian County Sheriff's Department, the Oak Grove Police Department, the Oak Grove Fire Department, Christian County Rescue, the Christian County Coroner's Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, & Montgomery County (TN) EMS assisted at the scene.
