Criminal Investigation in Hopkins County

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- On Monday, December 14, 2009, at approximately 11:40 am, Troopers responded to an assault complaint at the residence of Ms. Debra Hopkins. Ms. Hopkins had numerous injuries, and stated that her boyfriend, Barry Swanagan, assaulted her after a minor verbal argument. Ms. Hopkins alleged that Mr. Swanagan held her against her will in the residence for another nine hours, refusing her medical treatment, before finally leaving the residence on foot. Ms. Hopkins was then able to go to a neighbor's residence and call police, and was later transported by Med-Center Ambulance to Regional Medical Center for her injuries sustained as a result of the assault. On Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at approximately 3:17 pm, Mr. Swanagan was apprehended and taken into custody without incident.
