Felony Arrest in Christian County
Date of News Release: 09/13/2009
(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Post 2 units responded to a report of a collision on I-24 involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer. When units arrived they discovered that the operator of the SUV, Mr. Martin A. Marquez Jr., had fled the scene of the collision on foot. The two occupants' of the tractor trailer, Mr. Hamilton Troche Jr. and Ms. Nanette Marie Furlong, were trapped in the cab of the tractor with injuries. Mr. Troche and Ms. Furlong were able to free themselves from the vehicle and were then transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center by Christian County EMS.
The investigation revealed that Mr. Marquez had pulled over to the right shoulder of the roadway and waited for a tractor-trailer to approach. He then made a u-turn into oncoming traffic, causing the tractor-trailer to hit his vehicle head-on in an attempt to commit suicide. Kentucky State Police along with the Christian County Sheriff's Department and Oak Grove Police Department searched the area in an attempt to locate Mr. Marquez, but were unable to locate him at that time.
The Interstate was shut down for approximately 7 hours until the scene was cleared. Mr. Marquez was located at approximately 7:38 A.M., walking eastbound on the interstate near the scene of the collision. He was arrested without incident and had sustained no injuries from the collision. He was then transported to the Christian County Jail where he was lodged on the charges of 2 Counts of Assault 1st Degree. This case is still under investigation by Trooper Derek Smith, Unit 862.
