Injury Crash Involving DUI in Todd County

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Carl Powell was operating a 2002 International tractor-trailer southbound on KY 181 near Elkton when the rear of the trailer dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway. Mr. Powell was unable to control the vehicle and it overturned. The cargo, a 44,000 pound roll of steel coil, broke loose and landed in a ditch. Through the course of Trooper Smith's investigation, it appears that Mr. Powell was under the influence of illegal drugs. Trooper Smith also located marijuana and drug paraphernalia on Mr. Powell. Mr. Powell was transported to the Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment. He was cited to court for the offenses of DUI 1st Offense, Possession of Marijuana & Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 1st Offense due to his injuries. Mr. Powell was wearing a seat belt.
