News Release

4th of July - Over the Limit - Under Arrest

Date of News Release: 06/29/2009

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- This Fourth of July holiday, the Kentucky State Police will be participating in the "Over the Limit - Under Arrest" enforcement campaign. This high visibility enforcement targets impaired drivers. Impaired drivers will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

During the holiday, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will be conducting saturation patrols and *traffic safety checkpoints throughout the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Patrols will also be increased in high volume traffic areas.

The Kentucky State Police advise everyone to plan ahead; however, if you find it hard to figure out if you've had too many drinks to drive-don't risk it. Most likely if you're feeling "buzzed" you are impaired and if you drive law enforcement will catch you.

The Kentucky State Police remind everyone:

Citizens can assist troopers by reporting impaired or unsafe drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.

*For traffic safety checkpoint locations in your area, you may refer to the web site: www.kentuckystatepolice.org/posts/press/post2_checkpoints.htm.

Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
