Stats From Post 2 For May 2009

(Madisonville, KY) - For the month of May 2009, Post 2 reports the following activity:

• Arrested 50 Drunken Drivers
• Issued a Total of 2,504 Citations
• Issued 682 Speeding Citations
• Issued 769 Seatbelt Citations
• Issued 30 Child Restraint Citations
• Issued 800 Courtesy Notices
• Investigated 125 Crashes
• Assisted 185 Stranded Motorists
• Answered 1,159 Calls For Service
• Opened 61 Criminal Cases
• Made 108 Criminal Arrests

**There was one (1) fatal crash that resulted in the loss of one (1) life reported in the Post 2 District in May 2009. A single fatality crash occurred in Hopkins County. The victim was not wearing a seat belt.

Through May 31, 2009, sixteen (16) people have been killed in fourteen (14) crashes in the Post 2 District. Four (4) victims were not wearing seat belts, eight (8) victims were wearing seat belts, one (1) victim was using a booster seat, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet and two (2) victims were pedestrians. Three (3) of the fatal crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through May 31, 2008, sixteen (16) people had been killed in fifteen (15) crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
