Elk's Lodge in Henderson will donate $1,000.00 to KSP's Trooper Island
Date of News Release: 10/09/2009
(Henderson, Ky.) -- On October 9, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. the Elk's Lodge in Henderson will donate $1,000.00 to KSP's Trooper Island. Captain Robert Shoultz of Post 16 will accept the generous donation. The Elk's Lodge is a large area supporter of Trooper Island and this is part of an annual donation from their organization.
Trooper Island is a summer camp that was developed by the Kentucky State Police as part of a long range program of public service to the youth of Kentucky. The idea was to establish a permanent, recreational site where state troopers and campers could share a week-long camping experience together; a place where the tensions and turmoil of our everyday lives can be forgotten and for one week, young people could be given a touch of hope and desire for a better future.
Trooper Island is a 34-acre facility located in a secluded corner of Dale Hollow Lake near the Clinton and Cumberland County line (at the Clinton County end of Dale Hollow Lake on the Kentucky-Tennessee border), where an island was leased from the United States Army Corps of Engineers, and a non-profit, charitable corporation was formed.
It is a free, summer camp. There is no cost to the campers that attend Trooper Island. Trooper Island operates on donations from businesses, churches and the public.
