Death Investigation at the Union County Jail

Date of News Release: 07/25/2009

(Henderson, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police Post 16 Henderson is investigating a death that occurred at the Union County Jail on Friday, July 24, 2009.

Trisha L. Powell, 39, of Sturgis was found unresponsive in her cell during a routine check by a deputy jailer. Deputies and EMS attempted to resuscitate Powell with no success. Union County Coroner Stephen Shouse was notified and pronounced Ms. Powell deceased. An autopsy will be conducted at the Kentucky State Medical Examiners office in Madisonville, the date and time are pending at this time. The case is still under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Marc Carter but is believed to be a possible suicide by hanging. The Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Morganfield Police Department, THE Union County Coroners office, and the Union County Jailer.
