Victim Remains Unidentified

Date of News Release: 04/21/2009

(Henderson, Ky.) - The victim in this 19 year old murder investigation remains unidentified. September 11, 2007 I released to the media that Detective Moorman had received verbal information identifying the remains as being that of Scott Michael Morris. Further testing has revealed the victim is not related to the Morris family, and is in fact not Scott Michael Morris. Morris continues to be missing from Indianapolis Indiana. This case remains under investigation. Anyone who has information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Kentucky State Police at 270-685-3927 or 270-826-3312. Anyone with information wishing to remain anonymous can call the Owensboro-Daviess County Crime Stoppers tip line at 270-687-8484. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1000.00 for information leading to an arrest.

(Henderson, Ky.) - In January 2007 Detective Juan Moorman attended a new detective's in-service at the Kentucky State Police Training Academy. Detective Moorman used new information learned from the training to send a missing person teletype through National Crime Information Center. On January 05, 2007 Detective Moorman sent a nation wide search utilizing known descriptors of the victim, which initially produced 19 responses. Those initial responses were investigated and dismissed due to the ages of those victims. On January 31, 2007 Detective Moorman received a single response from the Indianapolis Police Department. This response contained information on Scott Michael Morris who was last seen on August 14, 1978. In February 2007 Kentucky State Police detectives Juan Moorman and Angela Jones, and Detective Jerry Spurrier with the Daviess County Sheriff's Office went to Indianapolis and obtained comparison DNA samples from Morris' family members. On Tuesday, September 11, 2007 Detective Moorman received verbal confirmation that the previously unidentified victim was in fact Scott Michael Morris.

Detective Moorman and Detective Spurrier are actively pursuing leads, and investigating subjects known to have been associated with Scott Michael Morris at the time of his disappearance.
