October Activity Report for Post 15

Date of News Release: 11/02/2009

(Columbia, Ky.) -- During the month of October, 2009, there were 34 traffic accidents investigated by the State Police working in the Post 15 area in the 11 counties of Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington.

There were five fatalities:
ANDRADE, HECTOR; Elizabethtown, Kentucky, was killed in Metcalfe County on 10/04/2009.
POPPLEWELL, TRAVIS; Russell Springs, Kentucky was killed in Russell County on 10/12/2009.
LUCAS, PATRICIA; Hestand, Kentucky, was killed in Monroe County on 10/20/2009.
GRANT, KATHY; Columbia, Kentucky, was killed in Adair County on 10/30/2009.
SMOTHERS, TOMMY; Campbellsville, Kentucky, was killed in Taylor County on 10/31/2009.

This brings our yearly fatality count to 39 compared with 38 through this same period in 2008.

State wide fatality count stands at 637 compared with 655 through this same period in 2008.

During the month of October, 2009, there were 1229 citations written, 254 courtesy notices written, 2352 vehicles inspected, 735 complaints answered, 77 motorists assisted, 69 criminal cases opened and 218 criminal arrests made.
