Fatal Collision on I-64 in Carter County

Date of News Release: 01/30/2009

(Ashland, KY) - On January 30th, 2009 at 0833 hours Post 14 Ashland received a call of a single vehicle accident which occurred on Interstate 64 near the 179 Mile Marker in Carter County. Emily Westerman was traveling west bound on Interstate 64 and encountered snow covered roads. Ms. Westerman lost control of the vehicle and entered the median. The vehicle overturned and the back passenger (juvenile male) was ejected. All occupants of the vehicle were initially transported to Kings Daughter Medical Center. Due to the extent of injuries Emily and Paul Westerman and the juvenile female were transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. The male juvenile passenger was pronounced deceased by the Boyd County Coroner.

The accident is still under investigation by Trooper Eric Gibson.
