Doctor Shot at Leatherwood-Blackey Clinic

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On 12/08/2009 at approximately 11:40 am Kentucky State Police in Hazard received a call from Perry County 911 reference a shooting at the MCHC Leatherwood-Blackey Clinic in the Cornettsville community of Perry County.
Preliminary investigation indicates John C. Combs age 46 of Redfox in Knott County had been to the clinic earlier in the morning for a doctors visit and then returned. Mr. Combs entered the clinic and approached Dr. Dennis Sandlin brandishing a firearm. Mr. Combs discharged the firearm striking Dr. Sandlin and fled the scene. Dr. Sandlin age 57 of Delphia, Ky. received a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Perry County Coroners Office. John C. Combs was arrested later at his residence at Redfox in Knott County and has been charged with murder. No one else was injured in the incident and the investigation is continuing by Det. Clayton Stamper.
