News Release

Letcher County Convenient Store Robbery

Date of News Release: 09/20/2009

(Dry Fork, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard, Ky is investigating an Armed Robbery which happened at the Double Quick Marathon convenient store located at 4497 Highway 15 South in the Dry Fork Community of Letcher County. The incident happened at approximately 3:55 P.M. on Saturday September 19th, 2009. The perpetrator entered the store & waited until all other customers had left the building then approached the counter and pulled a knife from his jacket pocket and demanded money from the two female employees working at the time of the robbery. The employees complied with his demands and the perpetrator fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then exited the business on foot and was last seen running toward Highway 15. Troopers from KSP Post 13 in Hazard responded to the scene and were assisted by the Letcher County Sheriff's Department, Letcher County Police Department & Whitesburg Police Department.

No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is on-going. The suspect is described as being in his late 40's to mid 50's in age. He was last seen wearing a black in color hat & a dark blue jacket. The suspect had gray hair and is about 6 feet tall weighing approximately 200-225 pounds with a partial beard. He also had a tattoo on the left side of his neck.
