Structure Fire Fatality in Perry County

(Chavies, Ky.) -- On August 3, 2009 KSP post 13 received a call of a structure fire, with possible entrapment in the Chavies community of Perry County. The fire was discovered by Deputy Jay Vanranken of the Perry County Sheriff's Office. Trooper Joey King and Trooper Loren Holliday, along with Grapevine-Chavies Fire Dept. and Perry County EMS responded to the scene. Upon entry to the residence, the victim Jane Carter, 56 years old, was located in the living room area. She was transported to Hazard ARH where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. Detective Gary Sandlin in cooperation with the state Fire Marshall's Office is conducting an investigation. There is no evidence of foul play. The source of the fire is still under investigation.
