Knott County Traffic Fatality

(Hazard, Ky.) -- A single vehicle early morning collision has resulted in the death of a 59 year old Knott County man. At 7:13 A.M. the Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard was notified of an injury collision that happened at 6870 Highway 899 in the Pippa Passes Community of Knott County. A white 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier which was operated by Hayes J. Slone (DOB 2-21-1950) of Hindman, Ky was traveling South on Highway 899 when he lost control of the vehicle and spun around in the roadway striking a utility pole which caused the vehicle to over-turn. The operator who was the only occupant of the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision by the Knott County Coroner Jeff Blair. Trooper Ryan Catron, U/258 is in charge of the investigation.

Trooper Catron was assisted by the Knott County Rescue Squad, Knott County Tran-Star Ambulance Service and The Caney Creek Rehabilitation Complex nursing staff.
