News Release

Fatal Collision on Highway 542 in Breathitt County

Date of News Release: 04/04/2009

(Hazard, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard is investigating a single vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 92 year old Breathitt County resident. On Saturday April 4th, 2009, KSP in Hazard responded to a report of the single vehicle accident that happened at the 4 mile marker on Highway 542 in Breathitt County at approximately 12:42 P.M. A 2003 Chevy Trailblazer was traveling eastbound when it dropped off the roadway resulting in the driver overcorrecting, bringing the vehicle back onto the roadway. A short distance later the vehicle left the roadway for a second time and struck a tree. The driver of the vehicle was air-lifted to Saint Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV a passenger in the vehicle Pearlie Davis of Gauge, KY in Breathitt County, (DOB 7/31/1917) was pronounced deceased by the Breathitt County coroners office. The victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. No charges will be filed. Trooper Jamie Gross, U/340 is in charge of the investigation.
