Double Fatality in Spencer County

Date of News Release: 06/04/2009

(Post 12 Frankfort) -- On Thursday, June 04, 2009 at 9:27 AM, a double fatality occurred in Spencer County on US-31E. Phyllis M. Cook was northbound on US 31E. John V. Maradits was southbound on US 31E. Ms. Cook lost control in a curve and crossed the center line. Ms. Cook's vehicle struck Mr. Maradits' vehicle head on. Mr. Maradits was pronounced deceased at the collision scene by the Bullitt County Coroner Office. Ms. Cook was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital by Stat Care Helicopter. Ms. Cook was later pronounced deceased by the Jefferson County Coroner Office. Kentucky State Police Frankfort Post was assisted by the KSP Post 4 Elizabethtown, Bullitt County EMS, Spencer County EMS, Spencer County Coroner Office and the Jefferson County Coroner Office. The collision is under investigation by Post 12 Frankfort Kentucky State Police.
