News Release

Arrest in the Death Investigation in Laurel County

(London, Ky.) -- On Saturday, October 24, 2009, an autopsy was performed by the State Medical Examiner's Office with the cause of death being ruled as Homicide.

On Sunday, October 25, 2009, Detective Mark Allen arrested the child's mother, Amanda Johnson, 21, of East Bernstadt, and charged her with Criminal Abuse, 1st Degree and Murder.

Johnson was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Detective Mark Allen is in charge of the investigation.

Date of News Release: 10/23/2009

(London, Ky.) -- On Friday, October 23, 2009, at 9:11 AM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified, by the Laurel County 911 Center, of the death of a 23 month old child at the Saint Joseph of London Hospital.

Laurel 911 center received a report of an unresponsive child at a residence on Ruby Jones Road in the East Bernstadt community of Laurel County.

The child was transported from the residence to the Saint Joseph of London Hospital, by ambulance, where it was pronounced dead at 9:07 AM by the Laurel County Coroner's Office.

An autopsy is scheduled, in Frankfort, to determine the exact cause of death.

Detective Mark Allen is in charge of the investigation and was assisted, at the scene, by Detective Mike Bowling, Trooper Fred Pennington, Lieutenant Curtis O'Bannon, Trooper Barry Blair, Laurel County Sheriff's Detective Tommy Johnston and the Laurel County Coroner's Office.
