Death Investigation in Laurel County

Date of News Release: 10/05/2009

(London, Ky.) -- On Sunday, October 04, 2009, at approximately 8:39 PM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified by the Laurel County 911 Dispatch Center of a residential fire at a residence on Laurel Lake Road North in southern Laurel, County.

The Keavy Volunteer Fire Department had responded to the fire at 8:14 PM and discovered the resident inside the home deceased.

The victim, Judy Colby, 82, of London was pronounced dead, with a preliminary cause of death as smoke inhalation, by the Laurel County Coroner Doug Bowling.

The cause/origin of the fire is undetermined at this time but no foul play is suspected.

Detective Mike Bowling is the lead investigator into the incident and was assisted by KSP Post 11 Arson Investigator Detective Brian Lewis, KSP Post 7 Arson Investigator Detective Pat Alford, the Keavy Fire Department and the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.
