Fatal Collision on US 25 in Rockcastle County

(London, Ky.) -- On Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at 4:40 PM the Kentucky State Police was notified by the Rockcastle 911 Center of a two vehicle traffic crash on US 25 (South Wilderness Road) south of Mount Vernon, KY.

Upon arrival KSP Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Trooper Craig Reed determined that a black, 1992 Dodge pickup truck, operated by Michael D. Allen, 28, of Mount Vernon was northbound on US 25 when it crossed the centerline and struck a gray, 2000, Toyota passenger car head-on.

Allen was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment of his injuries.

The Toyota, which was southbound on US 25, was operated by Juanita K. Davis, 81, of Mount Vernon. Davis received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene the Rockcastle County Coroner.

A passenger in the Toyota, Rebecca A. Davis, 28, of Mount Vernon was also airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment of her injuries.

No conditions are known at this time for Allen or Davis.

The roadway was closed due to the crash and will re-open at the competition of the crash scene investigation.

Trooper Reed is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by Trooper Coby Smith, Traffic Crash Reconstructionist Greg Hill, Sergeant Tom Atkin, Lieutenant John Yates, the Rockcastle County EMS and the Rockcastle County Coroner.
