News Release

Burglary Arrest in Laurel County

Date of News Release: 08/03/09

(London, Ky.) -- On Monday, August 03, 2009, at 9:40 AM the Kentucky State Police Post 11, in London, received a request for assistance from KSP Post 10, in Harlan, in the Laurel Canyon Subdivision in Laurel County, KY.

Senior Trooper Brent Sizemore, who works at KSP Post 10, stopped a vehicle in the subdivision and discovered the driver was wanted in Knox County on the charges of Fleeing or Evading Police and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.

Senior Trooper Fred Pennington and Trooper First Class Barry Blair responded to the location and upon further investigation determined that a Burglary had taken place at a residence on Afton Lane.

While recovering the stolen property from the vehicle Troopers Pennington and Blair also discovered an active Methamphetamine lab.

Trooper Pennington arrested Christopher A. Chavies, 28, of Barbourville on the charges of Burglary 2ND Degree, Manufacturing Methamphetamine 1ST Offense and Receiving Stolen Property U/$10,000 and Owen G. Hurley, 40, of London on the charges of Burglary 2ND Degree and Public Intoxication.

Trooper Pennington is in charge of the investigation and was assisted at the scene by officers from the Kentucky State Police and personnel from the Disaster and Emergency Services.
