Fatal Traffic Crash in Laurel County

Date of News Release: 05/15/09

(London, Ky.) -- On Friday, May 15, 2009, at 4:31 PM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified, by the Laurel County 911 Center, of a single vehicle traffic crash on KY 363 approximately 8 miles south of London.

Upon arrival Trooper Les Moses determined that a gray, 1997, Toyota, 4-Runner, SUV, operated by Ellis Wells, 81, of Corbin was westbound on KY 312 when it left the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned.

Wells, who was not seat belted at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and received fatal injuries.

Alcohol and/or drug usage is not suspected.

Trooper Moses is continuing the investigation and was assisted by the Laurel County Sheriff's Department, the Keavy Fire Department, the Laurel County Fire Department, the Laurel County Coroner's office, and the Laurel County EMS.
