News Release

Drug Arrest in Knox County

Date of News Release: 11/06/2009

(Barbourville, Ky.) -- On 11/4/09 at 12:40 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan received a call about a possible impaired driver operating a blue 1993 Saturn on US 25E in Knox County. Trooper Jay Sowders responded to the complaint and observed the vehicle traveling north on US 25E and conducted the traffic stop in Barbourville, Ky. After further investigation, Trooper Sowders recovered 290 Oxycontin pills and 64 Xanax pills. The operator of the vehicle, Brittany Sowers age 24 of Owingsville, Ky. was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st degree and Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 3rd degree. The passenger, Ricky Williams age 40 of Indian Harbor Beach, Fl. was charged with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st degree and Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 3rd degree. Both subjects were lodged in the Knox County Detention Center. This case is still under investigation by Trooper Jay Sowders of Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
