Criminal Abuse 1st Degree

(Harlan, Ky.) -- On 10/24/2009 at 8:20 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan responded to a child abuse call from Harlan ARH. The mother of the three month old infant, Ashley Ealy of Cumberland, Ky. brought the child to the emergency room for treatment of its injuries. The attending physician diagnosed the infant with "shaken baby syndrome" and the infant was flown to East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville, TN for further treatment. After further evaluation, it was discovered that the infant showed signs of suffocation and had eleven broken ribs that had been in the process of healing.
After further investigation, the father of the infant, Carl C. Crider age 25 of Cumberland, Ky. was charged with Criminal Abuse 1st degree and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center. This case is still under investigation by Detective Mike Cornett of Kentucky State Police Post 10 Harlan.
