Murder Investigation in Pike County

Date of News Release: 06/30/2008

(Pikeville, KY)- On June 30, 2008 at 9:57 pm EST Pikeville Post 9 received a call regarding a shooting off of US 23 in the Goody Community of Pike County.

Trooper Jason Merlo responded to the scene and discovered Philip Hickman, 39 years of age, deceased lying beside US 23. Based on the preliminary investigation it appears that Mr. Hickman died as a result of a gunshot wound. The suspect had fled the scene prior to the Troopers arrival. Kentucky State Police advised local media and other law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for a green 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup with tinted windows.

The "person of interest" that was operating a Chevrolet truck contacted the Pike County Sheriff's Department to turn himself in to authorities and was transported to the KSP Post. No arrests have been made at this time.

The incident remains under investigation by Detective Kevin Newsome.
