Fleming County Murders Investigation and Arrest

Date of News Release 01/12/08

(Morehead, KY) - Roy I. Pollard, Jr. age 35 was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Murder, and 1 count each of Unlawful Imprisonment, Assault 1st, Burglary 1st, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Terroristic Threatening 3rd, Violation of a Domestic Violence Order for allegedly committing the offenses on Sugar Tree Road, Muses Mills area of Fleming County.

Shortly after 7:00pm Friday evening Fleming County Sheriff's Dept and Kentucky State Police at Morehead responded to a residence on Sugar Tree Road and upon arrival discovered the bodies of Jason Lee Thompson, 25 and Willa Thompson, 52 deceased as the result of gunshot wounds. Richard F. Anderson, 43 was shot as well and was transported to Fleming County Hospital and later transferred to the U K Medical Center in stable condition.

Information obtained from witnesses led to a search for Mr. Pollard who had taken his estranged ex-wife Bonnie Butler hostage and fled into a wooded area behind the residence. Fleming County Sheriff's Dept, Troopers from Morehead State Police Post, State Police Special Response Team, State Police Special Operation K-9 Section, and State Police Aircraft Section searched throughout the night in an attempt to locate the two. At around 7:00am Butler was able to free herself from Mr. Pollard and contacted Police. At about 9:00am Mr. Pollard was located and arrested behind a residence located on Ryan Road about 1/2 mile from the location of the shooting. Pollard was taken to Fleming County Hospital and treated for exposure to the elements and released to be lodged in the Mason County Detention Center.

Searches continue for the weapon(s) and other evidence related to the investigation. Next of Kin notified. Time of Death for the victims was pronounced 0120am Saturday.
