Aircraft Accident at Stuart Powell Field in Junction City
Date of News Release: 12/27/2008
(Richmond, KY) - The Kentucky State Police Post 7 Richmond, and the FAA are currently investigating an aircraft accident that occurred at Stuart Powell Field in Junction City. At 2:30 p.m., a single engine aircraft being piloted by Bruce Bennett, age 38 of Nicholasville, had just taken off from Stuart Powell Field when the aircraft apparently lost lift and settled back onto the runway. The pilot had already retracted the landing gear. The aircraft slid into the grass median between runways. Passengers of the aircraft include the pilot's wife Andrea Bennett, age 34 of Nicholasville, and their four-year old son. No occupants were injured in the incident. The aircraft involved is a 1967 Mooney Executive 21. It is a single engine, f our seat aircraft. The family's destination was Miami, Florida. High winds were in the area at the time and may be a contributing factor. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Eric Taylor and the FAA.
